Parish Nursing A
Parish Nurse is a registered nurse who services the wholistic health needs of
a congregation and in so doing reclaims the healing ministry of the faith community.
In 1998, the ANA recognized Parish Nursing as a specialty and has published "Scope
of Practice" and "Standards of Practice" for Parish Nursing. In
addition, a standardized curriculum was developed and recommended by the International
Parish Nurse Resource Center.
Florida
Hospital is offering the parish nurse standardized curriculum to nurses who wish
to expand their knowledge and scope of practice as parish nurses. The Institute
is a 8-day intensive educational and personal growth retreat, designed to prepare
registered nurses to deliver wholistic, primary health care in congregations.
It is developed within an interfaith model, recognizing and incorporating a diversity
of belief systems. Participants earn 54 contact hours, develop the knowledge base
necessary for practice, learn how to deal with common problems related to the
practice, reflect on personal spiritual development, develop a support system
and have the experience of a lifetime. Upcoming
